Nguyen Minh Chau - an IT freshman at Dong A University
At birth, Minh Chau was afflicted with a motor impairment disability, forever constraining him to his wheelchair. Despite his bleak start, Minh Chau had never lost hope and carried on his life with dignity and hard work. His disability did not dampen his enthusiasm to meet new people and learn from his peers and served as an inspiration to us all.
Even more extraordinary was Minh Chau’s academic achievements. Not only had he caught up with his peers, attaining excellence in his studies in class, but had also made great strides in studying foreign languages. Minh Chau achieved fluency in English with an IELTS score of 5.5 and has shown interest in taking on Japanese language and culture studies.
“I never could have reached where I am today alone.” Minh Chau said, “At my side were always my parents offering their love and support which pushed me onwards.” Born in Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province, Minh Chau and his parents migrated to Da Nang city to seek medications for his ailment and a better education. As journalists, his parents faced long working hours and the hardships caused by the pandemic while still spending their time and love with their son. It is his parents’ unconditional love that motivated Minh Chau to work harder every day, to push forward in his studies and life, to not allow his disability discourage him from living his life to the fullest.
Minh Chau’s determination in the pursuit of knowledge, his optimism and positive outlook despite his situation shines a bright light that inspires all those who meet him and Dong A University is proud to have Minh Chau join our campus, proud to build his road to success and happiness.
