One - billion fund supporting students to carry out scientific research and do startups every year

Since 2019, Dong A University contributed one billion to develop the fund supporting students to carry out scientific research and do startups annually. Among them, UDA specially focuses on commercializing products with high application as well as creative projects.

This news was claimed by UDA leaders at the competition “Scientific Research and Innovation 2019” taking place on the 18 th of May on the occasion of Vietnamese Science and Technology Day.

According to Mr. Luong Minh Sam, the Vice Rector of Dong A University, UDA always supports students to do scientific research activities as this is truly the honor, the value and the difference of students in the phase 4.0.

“The Scientific Research competition is now more interesting and colorful. Specially, students are making effort to not only study the application of products but also learn to commercialize them, in accordance with the model ‘University - Student - Enterprise’.” Mr. Luong Minh Sam shared.

In addition, in 2019, the Center of Innovation and Startup of UDA will be established thanks to the support from Empire group, Singapore. Also, in this year, UDA will contribute one billion dollar to the fund supporting students to carry out scientific research and develop their startup ideas.

Agreeing with the model of UDA, Mr. Tran Minh Dong - the Vice President of Danang Small and Medium Enterprise Association also shared that developing scientific research activities for students is very important in terms of gaining knowledge, skills and especially the professional attitude, discipline as well as creativity before graduation.

It is also known that from 63 applied topics registered and conducted, 38 topics were nominated to join the Scientific Research and Innovation 2019 competition with two formats including 10 oral reports and 28 posters. During the schoolyear 2018 - 2019, 7 scientific research and startup projects were sent to attend many student startup competitions. UDA also conducted 7 scientific research projects and is going to commercialize products in the upcoming future.

38 application threads and startups competing in contest

Having reported at the competition, students from Food Technology Faculty said that due to the economic potential, the ability to purify water and clean environment of Caulerpa lentillifera, they came up with the topic “Growing and producing Caulerpa lentillifera at Lap An beach, Nam O”, which is also the very first step of their startup idea. They have made an experiment on the total area of 200 square meters and on each square meter, from 2 to 5 kilograms of CAulerpa lentillifera will be grown. Every month, there will be two times of harvesting.

Since 2019, the Dong A University has also decided to devote 1 billion VND to the development of the Student Fund for Scientific Research and Innovation every year.

“When the output is guaranteed, we will start to diversify the products (apart from fresh sea grape, they are also making effort to produce other products such as water - separating sea grape made by centrifugal methods, dried sea grape dried by using heat and endosmosis pressure of salt) - explained by Van Quy Hop.

Last but not least, UDA also conducted a research and produced Ganoderma lucidum by using bagasse in Danang. The product was sent to the Ministry of Health - the Vietnam Institution of Medicine to make analysis of the terpenoid amount.
