After graduating from university and securing stable jobs, Yen Nhi and Tam Chung - two female graduates of Dong A University - decided to volunteer to join the army.
Nguyen Thi Yen Nhi, a graduate of the Dong A University Hotel Management program, has decided to resign from her job in Da Nang and return to her hometown to enlist in the army.
When asked the reason why she volunteered to join the army despite having a stable job relating to her major, Nhi said: "Since I was a child, the image of a soldier has always been beautiful in my mind. I always wanted to dedicate my youth to my country and my hometown."
As the youngest of three sisters, Nhi was raised and pampered by her family from a young age. She hopes that the military environment will help her become more independent and mature. "Wearing the military uniform, I feel very proud to be able to fulfill my dream of contributing my youth to the country," Nhi said. She is ready for the day she joins the army and is determined to carry out her upcoming tasks well.
Ngo Dang Tam Chung is also a graduate of Dong A University, class of 18. She is one of only three female students from Phu Yen province to volunteer to enlist in the army this year.
Tam Chung graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Dong A University in 2022. With her degree in hand, she was offered a job at Hoan My Da Nang Hospital. After working in Da Nang, in May 2023, she decided to return to her hometown and work at a local dental clinic.
However, for Chung, her admiration for her uncle, who works at the Naval Region 3 Command, has inspired her dream of becoming a soldier since she was a child.
The decision to join the army means that Chung is ready for life and training in the military environment, away from the joys of her peers.
"Although there will be many difficulties because I am not used to the military schedule and style, and I am partly afraid that it will be more difficult for me as a girl to join the military environment, with my confidence and the pride of my family, I will try my best to complete my tasks successfully so as not disappoint the trust of everyone," Chung said.
Chung has two sisters, the younger of whom is a first-year student. When they heard that Chung was enlisting, her parents were initially surprised, but they were very supportive and helped her complete the paperwork and procedures for enlistment.
On February 25th, along with young people from all over the country, the two girls will officially join the army. Although they understand the difficulties and hardships they will have to go through, the decision of Yen Nhi and Tam Chung will open a new environment for them to continue to train, strive, and grow.
