On September 18, Dong-A University held the Opening Ceremony for the new academic year, awarding talent and study-encouragement scholarships to the new students of 2024, with a total value of nearly 30 billion VND. At the same time, faculty and students across the university contributed 500 million VND to support the northern provinces in recovering from the impacts of Typhoon No. 3 (Yagi).
The event was attended by leaders from the Da Nang People's Committee, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang, heads of various departments, representatives from the Consulates General of Japan and China in Da Nang, associations, businesses, nearly 30 representatives from high schools in Da Nang, along with faculty and over 3,000 students from Dong A University.
During the program, Dong A University also contributed 500 million VND to help the northern provinces recover from Typhoon No. 3 (Yagi), delivered through the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang. This contribution came from one day's salary from each faculty and staff member, the equivalent of one cup of morning coffee from each student, and the postponement of student talent shows and the Mid-Autumn Festival for the children of the university's staff and faculty. The new students of the 2024 class also engaged in a "lesson of responsibility" through their contributions during the opening session.
"Our compassion is amplified when we contribute, even in small ways. This is also the first practical lesson for the 2024 students, who are learning to be responsible citizens. The new academic year for the 2024 students began with a spirit of readiness to volunteer in response to natural disasters and to support the people and the nation when needed," shared Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Thanh Viet, Vice Rector of Dong A University, in his opening speech for the new academic year.
At the Opening Ceremony, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, the Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee, acknowledged the efforts and long-term vision of Dong A University in achieving balanced growth in both scale and quality of education at its main campus in Da Nang and its branch in Dak Lak.
The Vice Chairwoman remarked, "The university has just launched new training programs in Medical Doctor and Bachelor's in Rehabilitation Engineering this academic year. This not only represents a new development in the health science sector of the university but also aims to provide high-quality and specialized healthcare human resources to serve the health care needs of the people in Da Nang and other localities across the country."
Additionally, the university has made significant investments in student engagement through entrepreneurship programs, scientific research, international exchanges, and academic competitions. The dynamism of Dong A University is also recognized within higher education, characterized by diverse international collaborations and a vibrant training-employment ecosystem for students. Furthermore, the university has proactively anticipated new workforce trends through training partnerships in key areas such as artificial intelligence, microelectronics, and semiconductors—fields that play crucial roles in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and are strategic directions for the future development of Da Nang.
During this event, the Da Nang People's Committee also awarded Dong A University a certificate of merit from the Chairman of the People's Committee for its outstanding achievements over the past 10 years in implementing Directive No. 38-CT/TU dated September 5, 2014, on continuing to innovate the work of emulation and commendation for the period 2014-2024.
