An honorary engineering degree was awarded to "The Brave Tin Soldier" Nguyen Minh Chau, the brave young man who attended classes in a wheelchair and unfortunately passed away from a sudden illness on the evening of February 3rd.
"Tin soldier" is the affectionate nickname given to Nguyen Minh Chau, a student in the information technology department at Dong A University (Da Nang).
Despite his physical challenges, Minh Chau was a courageous and determined student. He maintained a high GPA throughout his studies and even achieved a score of 5.5 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) before starting university life.
Tragically, Minh Chau passed away from a sudden illness on the evening of February 3rd. Before his death, he had expressed the wish to donate his body to medicine.
At his funeral, the Rector of Dong A University, Dr. Nguyen Thi Anh Dao, presented an honorary engineering degree to Minh Chau's family, along with a certificate of merit and a farewell letter.
The degree was awarded in recognition of Minh Chau's outstanding academic achievements, his plan to build a successful career as a graphic design engineer, and his research on visual principles, cinematography, and the creation of software products about Vietnamese culture and history.
Many people have been inspired by Minh Chau’s decision to donate his body to medicine, despite his own health problems.
In her farewell letter to Minh Chau, Dr. Nguyen Thi Anh Dao wrote, "I am deeply moved when I think about your extraordinary determination and your selfless act of kindness. God did not give you the same health as your peers, but he compensated you with an extraordinary spirit."
At the funeral, Minh Chau's family also filled out a voluntary body donation form, fulfilling his wish to donate his body to medicine.
Minh Chau's body will be taken to Phan Chau Trinh University to be used for medical research and development.
Nguyen Minh Chau enrolled in the information technology department at Dong A University in 2022. His image as a confident, optimistic, and determined young man in a wheelchair has become a source of inspiration for other students.
Born with a serious illness, Nguyen Minh Chau showed great courage and determination in overcoming his challenges and reaching the university gates.
Minh Chau once shared, "To overcome this situation, I have always had the unconditional love and support of my parents." Every morning, his parents would help him with his hygiene, prepare his school supplies, and take him to class.
This was the motivation for Minh Chau to strive every day, to prove that his physical limitations would not hinder his future.
Minh Chau's family originally lived in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province. In 2016, his parents decided to move to Da Nang City to provide him with a better environment for treatment and education.
