Cuộc thi do trường Đại học Đông Á phối hợp cùng Hiệp hội đầu bếp độc lập thế giới - nhánh châu Á (World IAC Asia), Hiệp hội văn hoá ẩm thực TP Đà Nẵng (DCCA), Chi hội Đầu bếp chuyên nghiệp thành phố Đà Nẵng (DPA) và Học viện đào tạo kinh doanh ẩm thực Việt Nam (VCBT) đồng tổ chức.

Dong A University Hosts Central Vietnam's First International Culinary Competition
On June 15, the ProChef Vietnam 2026 International Culinary Competition officially took place at Dong A University.
The competition was jointly organized by Dong A University in collaboration with World IAC Asia (the Asian branch of the World Independent Chefs Association), the Da Nang Culinary Culture Association (DCCA), the Da Nang Professional Chefs Association (DPA) and the Vietnam Culinary Business Training Academy (VCBT).
ProChef Vietnam 2026 is the first international culinary competition to be held in Central Vietnam. The event brought together renowned culinary experts, professors and international judges and was conducted according to internationally recognized professional judging standards. It aims to establish a prestigious, professional and globally connected platform for Vietnam's culinary community.
During the competition, 46 chefs from across the country competed in three categories, each focusing on a modern main course prepared using seafood, red meat, or poultry.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Pham Ha, Secretary General of the Da Nang Culinary Culture Association and Head of the Organizing Committee, stated: "ProChef Vietnam 2026 is an international culinary competition organized in accordance with the professional standards of World IAC Asia. Beyond being a stage for chefs to demonstrate their technical skills and professional excellence, ProChef also serves as a platform that connects chefs nationwide with educational institutions, businesses and culinary experts, with the shared goal of elevating Vietnamese cuisine through professionalism and international integration."
As the host institution, Dr. Do Trong Tuan, Standing Vice President of Dong A University, shared: "ProChef Vietnam 2026 is a meaningful professional competition that brings together talent, passion and creativity in the culinary field. The event not only helps improve professional skills and encourages knowledge exchange, but also provides an opportunity to promote cultural connections and introduce the unique values of Vietnamese cuisine to the international community. More than simply a professional competition, ProChef Vietnam 2026 also serves as a networking forum where chefs, industry experts, lecturers, Dong A University students and culinary enthusiasts can meet, exchange experiences and learn about the latest trends shaping the global culinary industry."
As part of the event, Dong A University, World IAC Asia and the Da Nang Professional Chefs Association (DPA) officially signed a cooperation agreement on culinary education and the development of Vietnam's culinary profession.
Under the agreement, the parties will collaborate in organizing and implementing culinary-related activities, providing professional culinary training programs, organizing culinary competitions, conducting Vietnamese chef certification assessments and hosting professional and cultural exchange programs focused on Vietnamese cuisine.
Through this partnership, the organizations will also work together to expand professional networks and promote the sustainable development of Vietnam's culinary industry. The collaboration will strengthen connections with businesses operating in the culinary sector, thereby creating more practical training opportunities and career development pathways for Dong A University students in the Tourism and Hospitality disciplines, particularly those majoring in Restaurant Management and Food and Beverage Services.
On this occasion, students from various programs within the Faculty of Tourism also had the opportunity to attend a special session led by Professor Bill Sy, an internationally recognized culinary expert. During the session, he shared practical insights into global culinary industry trends, highlighting the importance of practical training, internships and professional competitions in shaping the careers of future chefs.
"The gap between education and the labor market can be significantly narrowed when students are given opportunities to practice and gain experience in real professional environments. Success in the culinary industry depends not only on technical cooking skills but also on passion, professional attitude, respect, professional ethics, discipline, management ability and leadership skills," Professor Bill Sy told the students of Dong A University's Faculty of Tourism.
Discussing the impact of artificial intelligence (AI), Professor Bill Sy observed that automation will increasingly replace many positions in commercial kitchens and large-scale food production systems. However, he emphasized that AI is unlikely to replace master chefs or chefs working in Michelin-starred restaurants, where creativity, recipe development, artistic presentation and each chef's unique personal signature remain the essence of exceptional cuisine. Looking ahead, he believes that the greatest competitive advantage will belong to professionals who can combine culinary expertise with technological thinking and contribute to designing operational systems and automation within the industry.
