This year’s competition marks the 12th edition of the university’s annual academic research event. According to Dr. La Duong Hai, Deputy Head of the Office of Science Management at Dong A University and a member of the Organizing Committee, the competition not only provides students with an opportunity to apply their professional knowledge, develop critical thinking and research skills, but also contributes to building innovation capacity—one of the core competencies required for the workforce in the context of digital transformation and sustainable development. At the same time, the competition helps identify and support outstanding research projects with the potential to become practical application products and innovative startup projects in the future.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Luong Minh Sam, Chairman of the University Council of Dong A University, emphasized:
“In its development strategy, Dong A University identifies science, technology, and innovation as key foundations for improving education quality and developing human resources to serve the country. The research process helps students strengthen logical thinking, data analysis skills, and the ability to present and defend scientific perspectives. These are also essential competencies that enhance students’ career readiness and enable them to proactively integrate into today’s working environment.”
Mr. Luong Minh Sam also shared that, following last year’s competition, Dong A University students won three ministerial-level awards. Many research projects were published in domestic and international scientific journals and conference proceedings, while several studies continued to be developed into application products, startup projects, and practical solutions. These achievements demonstrate that student scientific research activities are increasingly connected with social needs and career development orientations.
Under the theme “New Ideas – Strong Determination – Great Success,” the 12th Dong A University Student Scientific Research Competition for the 2025–2026 academic year was officially launched in September 2025. The competition attracted 127 research projects across various fields, including engineering sciences, health sciences, socio-economic sciences, and languages, with the participation of 382 students from different academic disciplines.
At the final round, 45 research projects by 135 students from 14 faculties were presented before four specialized evaluation panels. The projects introduced a wide range of creative solutions, including AI applications and integrated technologies across multiple fields, demonstrating practical value, innovative thinking, academic enthusiasm, and social responsibility among Dong A University students.
Among them, the Socio-Economic Sciences Panel recorded the highest number of finalist projects, with 21 entries. The Engineering Sciences Panel featured many AI-based research projects aimed at developing solutions for real-life applications, including: intelligent traffic management systems; traffic sign recognition systems to support safer driving; AI applications for monitoring and predicting air quality in hospital rooms; and an online IELTS preparation system integrated with automatic scoring using deep learning models, among others.
Alongside the research presentations at the specialized panels, the competition also featured an exhibition area showcasing research posters from participating teams.
According to the Organizing Committee, first launched in the 2014–2015 academic year, the competition has, after 11 editions, become a prestigious academic platform that helps discover and nurture scientific research capabilities while inspiring innovation among Dong A University’s young generation of students. Over 11 seasons, the competition has attracted more than 720 research projects with 1,969 student participants, awarded numerous valuable prizes, and supported the development of high-quality research projects with strong creativity and practical applicability. The event has recognized the serious research efforts and innovative spirit of students across the university in various fields.
