Nutrition Students at Dong A University Gain Hands-on Professional Experience with Industry Experts

Dong A University’s Nutrition program strengthens practice-oriented education through a scientific seminar and a free nutrition consultation program.

On the morning of July 9, a scientific seminar entitled “Nutrition in Non-Communicable Diseases,” combined with a free nutrition screening and consultation program, was held in a vibrant atmosphere with the participation of healthcare experts, nutrition industry representatives, faculty members and a large number of students from the Nutrition program at Dong A University.

As non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and obesity continue to rise, placing increasing pressure on the healthcare system and affecting people's quality of life, nutrition has become one of the key solutions for disease prevention, management and improved treatment outcomes.

The seminar, “Nutrition in Non-Communicable Diseases,” brought together leading experts in the field as well as representatives from food manufacturing companies, creating an academic forum for scientists, nutrition professionals, faculty members and students of the Nutrition program under the Faculty of Food Science at Dong A University. The event also featured the direct participation of doctors and master's degree holders from the National Institute of Nutrition and the Military Medical Academy, who conducted nutrition screening and consultation sessions alongside the seminar.

During the seminar, faculty members, staff and Nutrition students at Dong A University were introduced to the latest developments in nutritional science and its application in promoting physical growth and height development among pre-adolescents and adolescents, as well as in the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases.

The scientific discussion session was lively and engaging, featuring practical and diverse perspectives from healthcare professionals, industry representatives, lecturers and students. The discussions highlighted potential solutions for improving community healthcare through appropriate nutritional practices.

At the same time, during the free nutrition screening and consultation program, experts from the National Institute of Nutrition and the Military Medical Academy assessed participants of different age groups and genders using various health indicators, including body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, muscle mass, blood pressure and other general health measurements. Based on the assessment results, participants received personalized dietary recommendations tailored to their health conditions, age and individual nutritional needs.

According to Dr. Vu Thi Bac Ha, Head of the Nutrition Program at Dong A University, scientific seminars covering timely and socially relevant topics, together with nutrition consultation activities, have become one of the program's key strategies for enhancing the quality of education for Nutrition students in particular and students of the Faculty of Food Science in general.

"By focusing on nutrition topics that are of great public interest, such as nutrition for children's height development and nutritional management of non-communicable diseases, the seminar provides students with valuable opportunities to broaden their professional knowledge and bridge the gap between theory and practice. More importantly, the free nutrition screening and consultation program for lecturers, staff members and students of Dong A University allows our faculty to guide students as they take part in organizing and delivering nutrition consultation services. It is a practical step toward helping students transform knowledge into professional skills while learning how to serve the community with dedication and expertise. These valuable experiences give students greater confidence in applying what they have learned and prepare them to take on the responsibilities of future nutrition professionals", Dr. Bac Ha said.

The activities organized as part of this event not only delivered practical healthcare benefits to the community but also provided Nutrition students with valuable opportunities to experience a real professional environment, observe actual nutrition consultation procedures and learn directly under the guidance of experienced experts and lecturers.

Participating in the program, Luu Hai Dang, a third-year Nutrition student, expressed his excitement about learning directly from leading professionals in the field: "I am truly grateful that our lecturers trusted me and gave me the opportunity to support the nutrition screening and consultation program. Observing the consultation process firsthand and participating in several stages under the guidance of our lecturers helped me better understand the skills I still need to improve. At the same time, I had the chance to build meaningful connections with leading experts in the field and begin developing a professional working style and attitude while still at university. This has been an invaluable experience because it has given me a much clearer picture of what it means to work as a nutrition professional in the future."

Many students shared that the program had inspired them to study harder, pursue research and continue building their careers in the healthcare and nutrition sector.

Through this seminar, which connected the university with experts, businesses and students while integrating nutrition screening and consultation activities, Dong A University continues to affirm its commitment to practice-oriented education that places professional competence and societal needs at the heart of its training philosophy. The University remains dedicated to developing high-quality human resources capable of meeting the evolving demands of the healthcare and public health sectors in the years ahead.
